Leo Fender has been developing the Strat since 1954, and it finally led him to creation of S-500 in 1982 at it is basically Leo's vision of Superstrat: more comfortable, more powerfull and with more sonic possibilities thanks to new pickups, new tremolo, the PTB (Passive Treble and Bass) system, new pickup positions... Well, basically everything in this guitar is new while keeping up the old school spirit.

And MFD pickups is a big deal here since they change the tone dramatically. They are built around ceramic magnets and provide much more bass and punch than regular alnico pickups. Playing big open chords with this is pure pleasure. Yet with this PTB system you can always return to the 50s strat sound if you wish. But I bet you wouldn't:)

The Tribute series is the youngest in the G&L lineup. However, they totally nailed it in terms of build quality and, which is even cooler, using original USA components. Pickups and bridges on all guitars of the Tribute series are exactly the same as on top American instruments.

MFD Pickups

As a signature feature of G&L, Magnetic Field Design (MFD) pickups are found in the majority of their electric guitars and basses, regarded as a defining characteristic. By transferring the magnetic field to the top of the pickup rather than the middle, they provide a responsive tone with clarity and a wide frequency response. And Leo Fender did this by constructing the MFD pickups utilizing a ceramic bar magnet (installed beneath each coil), with soft iron pole pieces. MFD pickups also yield about twice the output per wind, making them less noisy than most conventional pickups while allowing for greater overall output. The standout feature of MFD pickups is their adjustable pole pieces, enabling players to fine-tune the height of each pole piece for customized string output and EQ experimentation. As a result, the pickups produce less noise, have a very wide dynamic range, and more output while still retainging the glassy tone which we all love.

PTB System

The PTB (Passive Treble and Bass) system, crafted by Leo Fender, stands as a remarkable innovation featured in many G&L guitars and basses. It provides players with advanced tonal control by enabling individual adjustment of treble and bass frequencies. Unlike conventional tone controls, which typically boost frequencies or act as low-pass filters, the PTB system takes a unique approach by emphasizing frequency cuts. This allows for precise tailoring of treble and bass levels, empowering players to sculpt their sound exactly as desired, regardless of playing position. In some sense, PTB functions like an EQ, right there on your guitar and makes it effortless to control your instrument's sonic character.

Dual-Fulcfrum Tremolo

The G&L Dual-Fulcrum® vibrato redefines tremolo design with its dual-pivoting system, a brainchild of Leo Fender. Unlike vintage tremolos, it employs two pivoting points for a smoother feel and allows both upward and downward bends. Crafted with a hardened steel bridge plate and knife-edge bolts set in brass inserts, it ensures durability and stability. The inclusion of a machined aluminum tremolo arm with a single locking Allen screw enhances usability, offering quick installation, smooth operation, and adjustable resistance. In summary, the G&L Dual-Fulcrum vibrato embodies Leo Fender's innovation and precision engineering, providing unparalleled performance and versatility for expressive and dynamic playing experiences.
