When Leo Fender released the G&L L-2000 bass in 1980, bassists all over the world asked themselves the question “how did we live before?”. Their bewilderment is natural: never before has one instrument given so many opportunities to find their sound. The L-2500 is its five-string version.

The recipe for the L-2500 is a pair of G&L Magnetic Field Design Tri-Tone controlled humbuckers, and that's where the possibilities really open up. Tri-Tone is designed as follows: three mini-switches for selecting a sensor, serial or parallel connection of sensors and selecting active or passive mode, as well as three controls - volume, treble and bass. With this baggage, the L-2500 is ready to work in any situation: from classic R&B to hard rock and pop funk. And it's all on one instrument. The Saddle-Lock bridge, personally developed by Leo Fender, is also responsible for the groove and signature Jiel sound. The Redburst coloring is a fantasy about California sunsets leaving for the Pacific Ocean, when the heat subsides, and somewhere in the vicinity of Sunset Beach (of course, not only there, but throughout Los Angeles) musicians gather together to take the stage, or just rehearse today.

The Tribute series is the youngest in the G&L lineup. However, they totally nailed it in terms build quality and, importantly, original USA components. Pickups and bridges on all guitars of the Tribute series are exactly the same as on top American instruments.

Saddle Lock Bridge

The G&L Saddle-Lock™ bridge showcases Leo Fender's innovative guitar engineering. It features a large protrusion on the underside that fits precisely into a routed area of the guitar body, optimizing contact for better string vibration transfer. This results in significantly enhanced sustain compared to traditional fixed bridges. By firmly anchoring the bridge to the body, G&L achieves superior resonance and tonal richness. Leo Fender's saddle design also minimizes string breakage and ensures consistent performance. Overall, the Saddle-Lock bridge embodies Fender's legacy of innovation and commitment to high-quality, reliable instruments.

MFD Pickups

As a signature feature of G&L, Magnetic Field Design (MFD) pickups are found in the majority of their electric guitars and basses, regarded as a defining characteristic. By transferring the magnetic field to the top of the pickup rather than the middle, they provide a responsive tone with clarity and a wide frequency response. And Leo Fender did this by constructing the MFD pickups utilizing a ceramic bar magnet (installed beneath each coil), with soft iron pole pieces. MFD pickups also yield about twice the output per wind, making them less noisy than most conventional pickups while allowing for greater overall output. The standout feature of MFD pickups is their adjustable pole pieces, enabling players to fine-tune the height of each pole piece for customized string output and EQ experimentation. As a result, the pickups produce less noise, have a very wide dynamic range, and more output while still retainging the glassy tone which we all love.
